Meet Helen – one of our Engineering ApprenticesThe Year of Young People 2018

2018 is the Year of Young People in Scotland.

In the second of our features on some of our young people, meet Helen.

Helen joined us from school last year as an Apprentice Engineer.  As she is ready to enter the second year of her apprenticeship, she tells us a bit about herself.

What would you most like people from older generations to know about young people?
We do want to learn and make a living, not just stand around.

What is your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement to date is completing an overhaul of a 7 litre bus engine.

Where would you like to see yourself in the future?
In the future I would like to see myself as a fully qualified mechanic working for Lothian.

Who inspires you?
Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani student who was shot in the head by the Taliban.  She has spoken out for education rights for girls and spoke to the U.N. Youth Assembly on her 16th birthday.

Why did you pick Lothian?
I picked Lothian because the company offers an amazing apprenticeship programme with the possibility of career progression.

What’s great about the Year of Young People?
It shows what great things young people are capable of.

Thanks Helen
